EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, usually known as EMDR , is a structured form of psychotherapy developed to help people process distressing or traumatic memories. It is best known as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Norsk tekst etter den engelske. People with PTSD may experience intrusive memories, nightmares, anxiety, avoidance, sleep problems and a persistent sense of danger. A traumatic event may feel as though it is still happening, even when the person knows that the danger has passed. EMDR aims to reduce the emotional intensity of these memories so that they become easier to recall without triggering the same level of fear or distress. The World Health Organization includes EMDR among the psychological treatments that should be considered for adults with PTSD.
